It was on this day 38 years ago that Bangor experienced a flash flood of historical proportions.
The Great Bangor Flood hit on February 2, 1976.
The Kenduskeag Stream in downtown Bangor was severely impacted.
In a matter of 15 minutes water levels rose to 12 feet in the Kenduskeag Plaza area.
Office workers were left stranded and some two-hundred cars were submerged.
The height of the Penobscot River caused both bridges between Bangor and Brewer to be closed.
When all was said and done, flood damage was estimated at more than $2 million.
No deaths were reported. [more & video]
